76th IIRB Congress
The 76th IIRB Congress, organised in cooperation with the French technical sugar beet institute ITB, will take place from 5th June to 7th June 2018 at the Centre International Deauville C.I.D in Deauville, Normandy, France.
IIRB Congresses are the platform for knowledge transfer and networking in the sugar beet sector. We expect an international audience of 350 people to attend this congress. Current topics of sugar beet cultivation will be presented in five technical sessions. Additionally more than 100 posters can be discussed with poster authors during the two poster sessions.
The official language of the congress will be English. Simultaneous translations to French will be available.
Welcome and Registration 4th June 2018
Congress participants are invited to start registering in the afternoon of 4th June at the C.I.D from 2 pm onward. A welcome reception will be held at the C.I.D in the evening of 4th June, 6 to 8 pm.
Congress 5th and 6th June 2018
The IIRB General Assembly will be held in the morning of the 5th of June before the opening of the congress.
In the Opening session 'The French sugar beet sector: Technical focus and societies' perception of progress', France as the host country will present its sugar beet sector in the context of current European agricultural policy. It will introduce major French activities in sugar beet research and innovation, and will analyse societies' perception of technical progress.
The Technical sessions of the 5th and 6th of June will focus on yield improvement by data capture, soil health and resilience in the sugar beet rotation, and future pest, disease and weed challenges. An Open session will complete the range of topics presented. A broad range of current topics will also be addressed in the more than 100 posters which can be discussed with their authors during two poster sessions.
In the evening of 6th June all congress participants and accompanying persons are invited to attend the Reception and Congress dinner.
Field day 7th June
The 7th of June will be dedicated to a Field tour on the topic of flax cultivation. It will provide a detailed insight into flax cultivation and processing which is typical for the Normandy area.
The congress will end in the early afternoon. After the tour, participants will be brought back to Paris Roissy airport for evening flights unless they wish to attend the congress post tour.
Pre- and post congress tours, accompanying persons programme
We propose an interesting Pre and Post congress programme for congress participants, offering visits to several sites of touristic interest (Pre tour: Versailles, Rouen, Fécamp, Le Havre; Post tour: Mont Saint-Michel, D-day landing beaches, Bayeux).
Three visits (Caen, Caen memorial, Honfleur) are proposed to Accompanying persons over the two congress days. All tours will be held in English. Accompanying persons are also welcome to attend the congress dinner and the field day.
